Venice and Lido (Honeymoon Day 3)

We woke up today around 11am and showered quickly with the goal of making the Rialto Market before its 1pm closing. After taking the water ferry from Arsenal , we were dropped off and walked Northwest to the market. After arriving at what we thought was the market, we had to walk "5  minutes" more to the actual market. When we arrived, the market was a lot smaller then we had imagined, and we very very underwhelmed, especially considering similar types of markets in other cities. However,  we come across some cherries and then we did find a cool store that sold glass pens, journals, feather pens with ink, wax stamps for sealing letters. 

Aaron bought a red glass pen with brown ink. He thought that the brown ink would make it special compared to the standard blue, black or red ink found in the US. After the pen shop, we went to a trinket store and bought a few gifts for friends and Elisha picked out glass beads (4 for 1 euro). After all this shopping, we were in need for a pick-me-up,  so we went across the street for a cappuccino and espresso which we shared. Feeling accomplished with our shopping, we ventured via Waterbus  to the Doge's Palace, where we were able to buy discounted tickets due to our participation in the Rolling Venice program. 

The Palace was pretty cool, some beautiful gold staircases, well-preserved paintings and a few good views of the Grand Canal. It is a pretty big property and we had a little trouble navigating out and finding the exit.

After going to the Doge's Palace, we ventured back to the B&B, stopping at Coop for bread, turkey and salad. We made a couple of sandwiches and had the salad in our room. Then we regrouped and left for a Waterbus that would take us to Lido, a neighboring island that is part of Venice.

When we arrived in Lido, we immediately noticed how much less touristy it was than Venice. 

We went walked around for a bit, stopping by at the Lido beach and then we made a reservation at Budda Soul Restó before heading to a  bar "Rizzo Venice Food," to try a Spritz, a famous Venice drink. We found it to be fruity with a very bitter finish. We walked around a little more before our dinner reservations at 8pm. Aaron ordered the honey chicken and Elisha ordered the  Himalayan Thali, a combo plate with beef and lamb.

That's right, an Indian restaurant in the heart of Italy. Our meal was very good,  but not quite as good as our favorite local Indian restaurant Rivaj. After dinner, we walked back to the Lido Waterbus stop and went back to the B&B. This was the end of our trip in Venice. We felt like we spent the perfect amount of time there. I think if we'd do it over again, we'd stay in Lido. This was a really nice areas
