Vactican (Honeymoon Day 6)

We were kind of slow moving today. We got up and showered and Elisha made some eggs and veggies for us to eat along with the croissants. Today, there was a nutella filled croissant that was pretty good.

We also had plain yogurt with peach slices. After breakfast, we took a little nap and then headed out to the Vatican. We encountered an issue with the Metro. We were trying to buy a single ride ticket with a 20 euro note and we didn't realize that the machines only give out a maximum of 6 euros. Very frustrating! We then went to a nearby bank to break all of our 20s into 5s. One cool thing about the Italian Bank, was that you enter through a security tube where you are fingerprinted and  then granted access. The bank trip took about half an hour...then we finally were able to board the train to the Vatican, so we could see the Vatican Museum and it's signature exhibit, the Sistine Chapel.

We walked to the end of the line of the Vatican Museum, where we were hammered by requests to pay twice as much for "skip the line" tours. Elisha adopted a special technique to avoid the requests, opting to say invrit?  (Do you speak Hebrew?), in hopes of avoiding the tour requests. Once we got in, we looked  at some of the exhibits --it is quite expansive, one could spend days inside the different  exhibits -- with the main intention of seeing the Sistine Chapel. Finally, we made it to see the glory that is the Sistine Chapel.

Next, we had planned to walk to the Jewish Museum in Rome, but we kept stopping in different stores. First for a cappuccino and a bathroom (most places don't allow you to use the bathroom, unless you buy something). Then, to look for fresh figs in a grocery store.  Eventually, we stumbled across Kasanova, a store similar to Sur la Table, where they were having an 80% off Sale, and we bought a serving platter and an Italian coffee press.

Then, we went to the Abbey Theater Irish Pub, a stop on Elisha's previous trip to Italy. Aaron ordered a Black velvet and Elisha a black and tan. We watched part of the Northern Ireland vs. Ukraine game of Euro 2016 as we had our drinks. We happened to be sitting next to two avid Ukrainian fans. Nothern Ireland ended up winning 2-nil. After drinks and a plate of tacos, we headed across the street for some Gelato. Elisha had pistachio and bacio dipped in Chocolate and Aaron had the tiramisu and banana. 

We continued on to Pane Vino e Daniele, where Aaron had wanted to try the Risotto Vension. Where we live in the Chicago area it is very hard to find venison in a restaurant so I was very excited. It was very tasty, although a little too gamey for Elisha's pallette. 

We took the train back and watched a little of the Man in the High Castle and then went to bed.
