We flew out of O'Hare to Madrid via Iberian Airlines on Friday, June 10, 2016, eventually arriving in Venice on Saturday, June 11, 2016
The service on the plane was very nice including free wine and several opportunities to get a drink from the beverage cart. They served us chicken and rice for dinner (stay away from the airplane beef) and then fed us again with a ham sandwich for breakfast. On the plane, we watched the Black Swan on the entertainment system and then Man in the High Castle on Aaron's new Amazon Kindle that was purchased for the trip. Once we got to Madrid, we had a few hours to refresh and get some coffee, before our connecting flight from Madrid to Bologna. Pretty non-descript flight. In Bologna, we had a couple hours to wait for our train to Venice so we went to Telecom Italia Mobile to get a SIM card for Elisha's iPhone, while Aaron bought some lunch sandwiches from a nearby cafe. We went back to the Bologna train station where we took a tour hour train ride. This toddler cried incessantly on the train.
Once we got to Venice we printed out our transit passes and then boarded the #2 Waterbus to our B&B in the Castello region. The water bus was about 40-45 minutes and we got to see the great river scenes; people on Gondolas and private water taxis. Eventually, we arrived at "A casa Mia B&B", a small B&B where we had reserved a private double room with a shared bathroom. After a long time traveling, it was nice to finally shower. After a nap, we made our was out to Garibaldi Street, where we had dinner at Hostaria All'Ombre, which was recommended by the gentleman who ran the B&B. We saw a bird poop on the couple two tables over from us, which was lucky because we were offered the same table, but opted not to take it. Food was very good. The offered a 15 euro prefix dinner, but we opted to order off the regular menu. Aaron got fish soup, which was maybe 1/2 an inch of broth and a mound of delicious fresh seafood.
Elisha got the Capri salad which was good too. We would rate this restaurant 4 stars. Then, we walked for a little on a hunt for some Gelato. We found a highly rated place about 1 mile away and walked there. We enjoyed it
